HackOff - July 15, 2008 6:00pm

On July 15th Wellington Perl Mongers are hosting a 'HackOff' event. It will be
a fun evening with a competitive edge. Teams of programmers will compete
against each other to solve a series of programming problems. The winning
team will be the first team to solve all the problems or, if we run out of
time, the team which solves the most problems in the shortest time. Register
below.
Is this just for Perl programmers?

No this event is definitely not just for Perl people. In fact if you want to
bring a team of hot-shot programmers who can showcase the superiority of
another language then we'd be delighted to welcome you. It's just about
hacking code for fun.
What constitutes a team?

We're envisaging people will group together with colleagues, classmates or
members of other software user groups (download a flyer for your
noticeboard). You'll need to come up with a team name so the commentator can
keep people abreast of your progress on the night. Each team must have a
minimum of two people and five is probably a practical upper limit. Each team
will need to bring a laptop with wireless networking capability. This event
is not open to individuals but we may be able to hook the stragglers up into
teams on the night.
What sort of problems will we need to solve?

The problems you'll be asked to solve will all be different, but here's a
fairly easy one to get you started. Decode the following data to get a secret
6-letter password. You'll need to use this password on the night to log your
team in.

Posted to: HackOff - July 15, 2008 6:00pm
